The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has embarked on a monitoring tour of selected payment centers in the Greater Accra Region to oversee the 94th and 95th disbursements of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme funds.

Her visit forms part of a nationwide exercise aimed at ensuring that all eligible beneficiaries receive their cash grants.

Speaking to the media at Nungua in the Krowor Constituency, Dr. Naa Momo Lartey highlighted the critical role of LEAP in providing financial assistance to extremely poor households, particularly those with orphans and vulnerable children, persons with severe disabilities, elderly individuals aged 65 and above, as well as pregnant women and nursing mothers with infants under one year.

She urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely, prioritizing essential needs such as food, children’s education, and small-scale income-generating activities.

While acknowledging that LEAP offers immediate relief, she encouraged recipients to work towards long-term financial stability.

Dr. Naa Momo Lartey also announced an ongoing reassessment of beneficiary households to verify continued eligibility and make room for new vulnerable households.

This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Ghana National Household Registry (GNHR), whose data collection efforts will help improve the targeting of new beneficiaries.

Calling on the media to support transparency and accountability in the disbursement process, she stressed the importance of raising awareness about the programme’s impact on beneficiaries.

The LEAP Programme, a key social intervention under the Ministry, provides bi-monthly cash grants to extremely poor households to help them meet basic needs.

The 94th and 95th disbursement cycles aim to reach thousands of beneficiaries nationwide.

During her visit, the Minister interacted with beneficiaries and payment agents to assess the efficiency of the process and address any challenges.

Under these payment cycles, eligible households receive the following amounts:

One eligible member household: GHS 512.00

Two eligible member households: GHS 608.00

Three eligible member households: GHS 704.00

Four or more eligible member households: GHS 848.00
