Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has granted approval for two Members of Parliament (MPs) Mustapha Yussif, representing Yagaba Kubori, and Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), representing Gomoa Central to meet with security officials.

Parliament in a statement signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, acting on behalf of the Speaker mentioned that, the Speaker Alban Bagbin approved for the two MPs to meet with officials of the NIB.

The statement emphasized the importance of adhering to Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution, stressing that, these articles protect MPs from arrest or questioning without due process, ensuring their parliamentary privileges remain intact.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM, in the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room at the Office of the Speaker.

To ensure their legal rights are upheld, the Speaker has mandated that the MPs attend the meeting with their legal representatives.

Additionally, security personnel have been instructed to coordinate with Parliament’s Legal Services Office upon arrival to facilitate the process.

While the specific charges or issues involving the MPs remain undisclosed, this move reflects Parliament’s dedication to balancing accountability with the protection of its members’ rights.
