Renowned South African actress Deli Malinga is set to visit Ghana as part of the One Book, One Child initiative, where she will engage with young students in a community school reading session. Her visit aims to encourage literacy, storytelling, and the power of representation in African narratives, inspiring the next generation of storytellers.

As part of the Ladies in Media Awards 2024 activities, Deli Malinga will spend time with schoolchildren, reading to them and sharing insights about the importance of storytelling in African culture. With her rich experience in acting and storytelling, she hopes to ignite a passion for reading and self-expression among the students.

The One Book, One Child initiative is a literacy-driven project aimed at providing children in underserved communities with access to books and learning materials. The program aligns with this year’s Ladies in Media Awards theme, “The Power of Representation,” emphasizing the importance of seeing diverse voices and experiences reflected in literature and media.

Deli Malinga, known for her iconic roles in South African television and film, believes in the power of stories to shape young minds. “Every story has the power to inspire and transform. When children see themselves in books, they begin to believe in their own possibilities,” she stated ahead of her visit.

Her reading session will not only provide children with access to books but also foster a deeper appreciation for African storytelling and its impact on cultural identity. This initiative seeks to ensure that no child is left behind in the journey toward literacy and education.

In addition to The Chife Executive Officer and the Ladies in Media Awards Margaret Akua Barden mentioned that there’s going to be another book donation and a reading session which will happen this month of April. Malinga also won the Actor of the Year at the Ladies in Media Awards her contribution to African cinema and media, further solidifying her role as an advocate for representation and empowerment.

Through this engagement, Ladies in Media continues to bridge the gap between media professionals and young learners, proving that representation extends beyond the screen and into the hearts and minds of future generations.
