Former Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak coach, Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong has said that goalkeeper Benjamin Asare is still not at the level of his colleagues Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott.

According to JE Sarpong, Asare did well in the first two games he played as a Black Stars goalkeeper but he wasn’t really tested in those games.

Despite acknowledging that Asare had a better debut than the aforementioned goalkeepers, JE Sarpong stated that there would be real test and that is when Ghanaians will know the real capabilities of the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper.

“The pressure Ati-Zigi and Wollacott faced while keeping post for Ghana, Asare didn’t experience that. There was no pressure on him. Sometimes, when he was idle, they would pass the ball back to him. We are yet to see his real quality.”

“When we face top-class players who take long shots, put pressure on the defence, and attempt unexpected strikes, and Asare is able to respond to those, then we can say he is at that level,” he said.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Asare after his performances in the games against Chad and Madagascar in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers has been confirmed as the Black Stars first choice goalkeeper by head coach Otto Addo.
