The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has led a high-powered delegation to Bawku following a violent clash between some youth of the town and security personnel. The visit, which took place on Thursday, April 10, 2025, is aimed at gaining firsthand insight into the security situation and coordinating efforts to maintain peace.

In a statement released by the Ghana Police Service, the team accompanying the IGP includes officers from operations, investigations, and intelligence units of the Ghana Police Service. This move follows a violent incident on April 9, 2025, which resulted in the unfortunate death of one person, Fuseini Iddrisu, and injuries to five others, including a police officer and an immigration officer. All injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment.

They stated that, a significant property damage was also reported, including the destruction of two police vehicles and damage to a rented police accommodation in Binduri. Homes of several police officers were also affected.

In response, the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces, has intensified security in Bawku and nearby communities through joint patrols to restore order.

During his visit, the IGP is expected to commiserate with the bereaved family, visit the injured, and provide support to affected officers.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its continued collaboration with the Armed Forces, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure the restoration of peace, security, and law and order in Bawku.
