In response to the escalating violence in Bawku, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has announced a revised curfew hours for residents living within Bawku areas.

According to the Minister, residents are required to observe a curfew from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The decision, based on recommendations from the Upper East Regional Security Council and issued through an Executive Instrument, aims to restore calm in the troubled region.

Government has called on Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, and the Youth to exercise restraint and adopt non-violent approaches to resolving disputes.

Additionally, the Minister has imposed a total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons in the affected areas.

He warned that individuals found in violation of this directive would face arrest and prosecution.

The revised curfew follows a violent confrontation in Bawku, during which civilians reportedly attacked police personnel.

The incident resulted in the destruction of the Divisional Commander’s residence, another home, and a police pickup vehicle.

Exchange of gunfire between the two sides further heightened tensions.

Authorities are urging residents to cooperate with security measures as efforts continue to restore peace and stability in the region.
