The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has revealed that the government will allocate $1 million to support more than 1,500 peasant farmers in Northern Ghana. This initiative forms part of the broader Feed Ghana Project aimed at enhancing vegetable production.

In an interview on Monday, April 14, 2025, the Minister stated that the government is focused on empowering grassroots farmers, particularly those already engaged in tomato and other vegetable farming.

According to Mr. Opoku, most of these farmers face financial limitations that hinder the expansion of their operations, hence the government’s decision to provide direct financial assistance.

The disbursement will be formalised on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry and the Apex Bank to facilitate the process.

“In some cases, some of them do not have the financial muscles to be able to do the kind of work they are doing. So in the coming Wednesday, April 16, 2025, I will engage the media because I will sign an MoU with the Apex Bank for the distribution of $1 million to over 1500 peasant farmers in the Northern part of the country for the production of vegetables. This is just the beginning,” he said

He further mentioned that the government is also offering technical support by supplying improved seeds and essential farming inputs to boost productivity and enable all-year-round cultivation.
