The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has dismantled a feared armed robbery gang that had wreaked havoc across the region for months.

The gang, led by Sampson “Sammy Tugah” and W.K., an ex-convict, was notorious for targeting miners, motorists, and even a bank, leaving many injured and traumatized.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, revealed in a press conference today, April 14, 2025, that their crime spree included several shocking incidents:
On February 15, 2025, they attacked miners near Agogoso and Adukwai, injuring a Chinese national and stealing gold concentrate worth GH¢150,000.

Also February 16, 2025, they struck a mining site at Dinkyei, engaging police in a firefight that left an officer injured and deprived of his rifle. They made away with gold valued at GH¢200,000.
On March 24, 2025, they ambushed Chinese miners travelling in a Nissan Navara, riddling the vehicle with bullets and injuring two.

April 5, 2025, the gang blocked the Adansi Denkyera road, attacked a Toyota Corolla, shot two miners, and stole 6 pounds of gold worth GH¢80,000.

On April 10, 2025, they raided the Adansi Rural Bank in Fomena, tying up the security guard and using an electric cutter to break into the vault. The robbers fled with an unspecified amount of cash and two pump-action guns.

The gang’s reign of terror ended on April 12, 2025, when the police, acting on intelligence, intercepted them in a KIA Picanto taxi.

In the ensuing gun battle, four gang members, including Sampson and W.K., were killed. Another suspect survived and is currently under guard at Bekwai Government Hospital.

Recovered items include the AK-47 rifle stolen from police in February, pump-action guns taken during a bank robbery, ammunition, and spent cartridges.

Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, ACP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, commended the Regional Intelligence and Anti-Robbery teams for their efforts, urging citizens to report suspicious activities to support the fight against crime.

He assured the public that investigations to track down accomplices are ongoing, promising continued safety for residents in the region.
