The Greater Accra Region has been officially declared cholera-free by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) after 30 consecutive days without any reported cases of the disease.

This milestone was announced during a media workshop focused on enhancing cholera risk reporting in the region.

Akumatey Tetteh, Greater Accra’s Regional EPI Manager, hailed the achievement as a significant public health victory.

Reflecting on the earlier months of the year, Tetteh stated, “During the first and second quarters, we faced 151 cholera cases and 10 deaths. Now, our surveillance shows zero reports, and the region is free from cholera.”

Eunice Joan Teah Dzagli, the Regional Health Promotion Officer, emphasized the region’s ongoing commitment to prevent cholera outbreaks, especially as the rainy season approaches.

She stressed the importance of collaborative efforts among the media, religious institutions, and other organizations to sustain the cholera-free status and avoid repeating past struggles.

The declaration represents a major step forward in Greater Accra’s public health aefforts, with local authorities focusing on proactive measures to ensure continued safety for residents.
