The Ghana Police Service has raised alarm over a surge in attacks targeting its personnel and their families in Bawku and nearby communities in the Upper East Region.

In response to the growing threats, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has imposed a temporary ban on the movement of police officers and their families to Bawku and its surrounding areas.

Additionally, the IGP has instructed all officers currently stationed in the area to wear protective gear at all times and ensure they are accompanied by armoured escorts when moving within the region.

The directive comes in the wake of escalating threats against law enforcement, especially following the killing of two uniformed police officers who were shot while riding a motorbike in Binduri.

The attack occurred just hours after the IGP had visited Bawku, where he called for calm amid tensions sparked by allegations that some officers were involved in the killing of a youth leader.
