President John Dramani Mahama has described the newly launched One Million Coders Programme as a foundational move towards transforming Ghana into a digital economy.

According to him, the initiative will position the country as a future leader in the global tech space.

At the official launch of the programme on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, he highlighted the strategic significance of the initiative, which is set to train one million Ghanaians in digital and coding skills over the next few years.

According to President Mahama, the launch goes beyond the unveiling of a training initiative.

He noted that it marks the beginning of Ghana’s journey towards establishing a robust blue economy and a clear signal of the country’s readiness to thrive in the digital era.

He emphasized that the programme is not just the fulfillment of a campaign promise but a key element of the government’s broader Reset Ghana Agenda.

This agenda he said aims to reposition the nation for inclusive and innovation-driven development by empowering citizens with essential digital skills necessary for modern life and work.

He stated that the initiative is a message to the youth, local communities, the continent, and the world that Ghana is committed to shaping its digital future and taking an active role in the evolving global technological landscape.
