The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has called on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), and the Ministry of Energy to take urgent steps to address the ongoing power outages in his constituency.

In a statement, the MP expressed deep concern over the persistent and unannounced power cuts commonly known as dumsor that has disrupted communities in the area for several months.

He criticized power distribution agencies for failing to provide prior notice about the outages, which he said have caused significant disruptions to households, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and businesses.

The MP highlighted the wide-ranging consequences of the unreliable power supply, noting that it undermines economic activity, threatens lives, and hampers the delivery of essential services.

While he acknowledged that the power crisis affects the entire country, he emphasized that Weija-Gbawe has been especially hard-hit.

He revealed that some parts of the constituency have faced continuous blackouts lasting more than four days, with some areas experiencing even longer periods without electricity.

Despite multiple engagements with ECG officials to resolve the issue, he reported that no substantial progress has been made.

Although assurances have been given about GRIDCo’s planned interventions, residents of Weija-Gbawe continue to suffer from an unstable electricity supply.

The MP called for immediate and effective action to resolve the issue permanently, stressing that the people of Weija-Gbawe deserve dependable power supply.
