The Vatican announced the death of Pope Francis on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, marking the end of an era for the Catholic Church.

His Eminence, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, expressed profound sorrow in delivering the news, stating, “At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His Church.”

Pope Francis, aged 88, had faced numerous health challenges in recent years, including a 38-day hospital stay earlier this year.

Despite his frailty, he greeted crowds on Easter Sunday in St. Peter’s Square, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his ministry.

World leaders and dignitaries have shared heartfelt tributes to the late pontiff, recognizing his legacy as a spiritual reformer and advocate for the marginalized.

Former US President Joe Biden described him as “one of the most consequential leaders of our time,” while British Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised his efforts to promote fairness and justice globally.

President Mahama of Ghana reflected on his personal encounter with Pope Francis, stating, “His legacy of compassion, humility, and commitment to social justice will continue to inspire generations.”

Similarly, French President Emmanuel Macron called him “a man of humility,” and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted his prayers for peace in Ukraine.

The late Pope’s advocacy for the poor and his dedication to interfaith dialogue earned him the title of “People’s Pope.”

Leaders across the globe, including Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Scottish First Minister John Swinney, emphasized his moral voice and tireless pursuit of peace.

As the Catholic Church mourns the loss of its leader, preparations for his funeral are underway, reflecting his wishes for simplicity and humility.

Pope Francis’ legacy will undoubtedly endure, inspiring millions to live with compassion and faith.
