Ghana’s boys and girls teams have kicked off their CAF African Schools Football Championship campaigns in style, each securing impressive victories in their opening matches at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.

In the boys’ division, Ghana made a bold statement with a 2-0 win over Uganda. Forward John Andor stole the show with a brace—scoring just three minutes into the game and sealing the win with another clinical finish. Ghana dominated the midfield and held firm defensively to keep Uganda at bay, delighting home fans and claiming the top spot in their group.

The boys will take on South Africa at 11:00 am on Thursday, followed by a clash against Algeria at 3:00 pm to wrap up their group stage campaign. Andor has already emerged as one of the standout players of the tournament, raising hopes that Ghana could go all the way.

Meanwhile, in the girls’ division, Ghana’s U15 team edged past Morocco 1-0 on Wednesday, with Jennifer Awuku scoring the match-winner in the second half. It was a strong and disciplined performance from the team, giving them the perfect start to the tournament.

The girls will next face Benin at 12:00 pm and then Malawi at 4:00 pm on Thursday as they aim to top their group and advance to the final stages.

The 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship, which runs from April 23 to 26, is showcasing some of the continent’s brightest young talents, and Ghana’s double triumph on home soil has set the tone for an exciting tournament ahead.
