Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has urged medical practitioners at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) to call off their indefinite strike, which was triggered by the dismissal of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Adam Atiku, over alleged negligence linked to the death of a patient.

The strike, declared by the Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH) on April 24, has led to the suspension of emergency and outpatient services.

The doctors cited “unwarranted attacks” from the Health Minister during his unannounced visit to the hospital on April 22 as a key reason for their action.

Addressing the media on April 24, Akandoh emphasized his commitment to improving the hospital’s operations and supporting its staff.

“My humble appeal to the medical doctors and health practitioners at Tamale Teaching Hospital is that I am the first person to take care of your interests. Therefore, let us call off the strike and let us all regroup and strategize the way forward”.

The minister also announced plans to donate medical equipment to enhance service delivery and suggested that some issues could be addressed using internally generated funds.
