President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to embrace unity, faith, and divine guidance as the cornerstones of the nation’s continued progress.

Speaking during the inauguration of the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Committee on Friday, April 25, he stressed the importance of integrating prayer and reflection into the nation’s core values in order to foster peace and stability.

In his address, Mr. Mahama pointed out that Ghana’s remarkable peace, especially in these challenging times of division and despair is no accident, but the result of committed leadership, collective resilience, and, most importantly, the unwavering prayers of a devoted nation.

The committee, Mr. Mahama emphasized, would serve as a dedicated body responsible for organizing national reflection, thanksgiving, and prayer, aimed at uniting the nation through faith and gratitude.

The president’s words resonated deeply as he reminded the audience of the significance of divine guidance in every aspect of life.

Referencing the Bible and the Quran, he reinforced that without God’s intervention, human efforts, no matter how diligent, can fall short.

He invoked the words of Psalm 127:1, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the laborers labor in vain,” and from Surah Ashura in the Quran, which teaches that misfortune often stems from one’s actions, yet God’s mercy remains vast.

These scriptures, he noted, serve as a reminder that, as a nation, Ghana’s path to prosperity must be built on the foundation of faith and spiritual guidance.

He also revealed a new meaning for July 1, Ghana’s Republic Day.

Traditionally a day to commemorate the nation’s attainment of a republican status, he announced that it would now also serve as a day for Ghanaians, across all faiths, to pause and give thanks for the nation’s blessings and seek divine wisdom for the future.

This declaration, Mahama said, would help solidify national identity as one grounded in faith, unity, and shared destiny.

As the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Committee begins its important work, the president urged all Ghanaians to take part in this sacred initiative, ensuring that the nation’s journey forward is one led by faith, guided by prayer, and driven by a collective sense of purpose.

He expressed his firm belief that Ghana will continue to thrive as an oasis of peace and stability in an often turbulent world.
