Crystal Palace forward Eddie Nketiah has finally broken his silence on representing Ghana, expressing a newfound willingness to wear the Black Stars jersey—years after pledging his loyalty to England.

Born in Lewisham, Greater London, to Ghanaian parents, Nketiah has long walked the tightrope between the country of his birth and his family’s heritage. The 25-year-old rose through England’s youth ranks and even became the country’s all-time top scorer at U-21 level, fueling hopes of a long-term future with the Three Lions.

In 2023, he earned a long-awaited senior call-up for England’s matches against Scotland and Ukraine, but never made the matchday squad—and hasn’t been invited since.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has made multiple efforts over the years to secure Nketiah’s allegiance, but the attempts were repeatedly turned down.

Now, in a heartfelt moment on The Beautiful Game podcast, Nketiah seems to have had a change of heart.

“When I was younger, playing for England made sense after coming through the youth ranks. But if Ghana call me up, I’ll be there,” he said.

His statement marks a major shift, especially after years of uncertainty. It’s a decision likely influenced by his recent struggles at club level, where he has just one goal and one assist in 25 appearances for Crystal Palace.
