The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has inaugurated a nine-member board for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), tasking them with the critical responsibility of enhancing domestic revenue mobilisation to support national development.

The board, chaired by George Ricketts Hagan, a former Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, includes notable members such as Anthony Sarpong, Commissioner of the GRA, and Francis-Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Forson emphasized the pivotal role of the GRA in implementing government policies.

“Every government policy depends on revenue mobilized by the GRA; hence, their role is crucial to national development”.

He urged the board to lead with integrity and dedication, steering the GRA on a path of growth.

Dr. Forson also highlighted the need for decisive action to eliminate smuggling activities, which undermine revenue efforts.

“It’s time to look within and extensively raise domestic revenue to anchor government expenditure, ”he remarked, noting the tight fiscal space available due to IMF restrictions.

The Finance Minister expressed confidence in the board’s ability to drive transformative reforms within the GRA, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and innovation in revenue collection processes.
