Govt announces plans to review YEA’s Sanitation Module

The Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment has announced a review of the sanitation module under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), as part of a broader assessment of the agency’s programmes.

Speaking in an interview, George Opare-Addo disclosed that the review would begin following the swearing-in of the new YEA Board on Wednesday, May 7.

He emphasized that the evaluation would assess the effectiveness of all YEA modules in delivering tangible impact.

“One of the key things I will tell the board to review immediately is to assess the impact of all the modules under the YEA, to determine how best these programmes have performed”.

Opare-Addo further revealed that YEA currently has no contract with waste management firm Zoomlion, which previously partnered with the agency on the sanitation initiative.

He assured that a tendering process would be opened to allow broader participation.

“We’ll assess the sanitation module’s impact to determine whether to maintain what we have. But we will open up the tender, so that other people can also bid, which I can guarantee”.

According to the Minister, the new tendering process will be conducted on a regional basis, ensuring equal opportunities for stakeholders across all 16 regions.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation has urged the government to retain Zoomlion’s contract, citing its established role in the sanitation sector.
