The Supreme Court has dismissed an objection raised by former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, clearing the way for legal proceedings on the controversial suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to continue unhindered.

The challenge stemmed from concerns regarding Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie’s dual role in the case both empaneling and presiding over the proceedings.

Mr. Dame argued that this arrangement was procedurally improper and could compromise public confidence in the judiciary’s independence.

Following a brief recess, the Supreme Court panel comprising Justices Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Henrietta Mensah Bonsu, Yonny Kulendi, Amadu Tanko, and Ernest Gaewu reconvened and unanimously dismissed the objection after evaluating its legal merits.

The justices ruled that the concerns raised did not constitute grounds for disqualifying Justice Baffoe-Bonnie from overseeing the case, reaffirming their commitment to upholding due judicial process.

This ruling paves the way for the continuation of legal arguments surrounding the suspension of Chief Justice Torkornoo, a matter that has generated considerable public discourse.
