The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced plans to open six offices outside Ghana to address the issue of fake licences used by Ghanaians living abroad.
This announcement was made during the commissioning of a new state-of-the-art DVLA office in the Adentan Municipality on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
The Adentan office is set to operate 24 hours a day, offering a full range of DVLA services, including driver licensing and vehicle registration.
Speaking at the event, DVLA CEO Julius Neequaye Kotey revealed that the international expansion will begin with a pilot phase in countries such as Germany, UK, South Africa and Canada to address licensing issues.
Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe, urged the DVLA to enhance its service delivery and fulfill its mandate effectively.
Meanwhile, some drivers from the Madina branch of the GPRTU expressed their excitement about the new office. They noted that it would ease the burden of traveling to Dodowa or Somanya for licence renewals.
They also praised the government’s plan for 24-hour service, saying it would greatly reduce the stress drivers face when their licences or vehicle documents expire.
