A Fellow at the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Dr. John Osae-Kwapong, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action following the controversial cash gift presented by PMMC CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, to evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng Asiamah, popularly known as Agradaa.

Dr. Osae-Kwapong emphasized that the president must uphold the newly launched Code of Conduct for Public Officials, ensuring that ethical standards are enforced.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, May 12, Dr. Osae-Kwapong highlighted the importance of public officials passing both the legal test and the appearance test.

“Public servants must be mindful of how things look, because that’s where trust and goodwill are often lost”.

The viral video showing Mr. Gyamfi handing over cash to Agradaa has sparked widespread criticism, with concerns raised about the ethical implications of such actions.

Critics argue that the gesture could undermine the credibility of President Mahama’s transparency agenda.

Sources at the Jubilee House have confirmed that Mr. Gyamfi has been summoned by the Chief of Staff to account for his actions.

Dr. Osae-Kwapong welcomed the move but stressed that appropriate sanctions must follow.

“I’m glad the Chief of Staff has summoned him. I’m glad there’s an apology. And I’m glad we now have a code of conduct in place. But what matters now is the president’s response”.

While ruling out outright dismissal, Dr. Osae-Kwapong suggested that a suspension would be a more appropriate disciplinary measure.

“At most, a suspension — that should suffice. But this is also an opportunity to revisit the final section of the code of conduct, especially regarding consequences for violations”.
