Ghana’s leading radio brand for young audiences; YFM, is set to unveil the 2026 Y Power Icons, its annual youth recognition platform celebrating exceptional young Ghanaians who are breaking barriers, creating opportunities and making meaningful impact across various sectors.

The Y Power Icons recognises young personalities whose work, influence and achievements demonstrate the growing impact of Ghana’s youth across industries and communities.

The initiative has, over the years, spotlighted young Ghanaians from diverse fields including music, media, business, technology, politics, healthcare, fashion, entrepreneurship and social development. Previous honourees have included prominent young personalities such as Wode Maya, Dr. George Anagli, Kezia Saani, Black Sherif, Chef Abby, Kofi Kinaata and Edem Agbana, among others.

For the 2026 edition, the selection process combines public nominations with an expert review process, with nominations from YFM listeners considered alongside the assessment of a selection committee made up of experts in Ghana’s youth ecosystem.

The rollout will feature profiles and stories highlighting the achievements, influence and journeys of each honouree, giving audiences an opportunity to discover the people behind some of the most impactful work being done by Ghana’s young generation.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Timothy Kwakye Karikari, Director of Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC), said Y Power Icons represents YFM’s commitment to using its platform to recognise young people whose work is shaping Ghana’s present and future.

“YFM has always believed that young people should not only be spoken about but also given the platform to be seen, heard and celebrated for the impact they are making. Y Power Icons shines a spotlight on young Ghanaians who are pushing boundaries, creating opportunities and influencing their communities and industries in meaningful ways. These are the young people helping to shape the Ghana we see today and the Ghana we aspire to build tomorrow.”

He added that the initiative reflects YFM’s long-standing commitment to youth development and amplification.

The 2026 Y Power Icons comes as YFM continues to strengthen its position as a leading youth-focused media brand, connecting with young audiences through music, entertainment, conversations, digital content and experiential platforms across Ghana.

The initiative is open to young Ghanaians aged 15 to 35, reflecting Ghana’s youth demographic as stated by Ghana’s National Youth Authority and the African Union.

With projects like the Y Power Icons and a host of others, YFM has strengthened its position not only as the No.1 radio brand for young audiences in Ghana but the number one English-speaking station in Kumasi and Takoradi on frequencies 102.5FM and 97.9FM respectively. In Accra, YFM remains one of the capital’s most influential English-language stations, consistently ranking among the top 3 English stations in Accra while maintaining its dominance and leadership among younger listeners.

Audiences can follow the unveiling of the 2026 Power Icons list across YFM’s on-air, website and social media platforms and join the conversation using #YPOWERICONS2026.
