Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced the successful negotiation of a bilateral agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) aimed at creating job opportunities for Ghanaian youth through a structured labour export program.

In a post on his official X account, the Minister revealed that the deal was part of high-level diplomatic engagements held during his two-day working visit to the UAE, at the invitation of the Emirati government. He held talks with top UAE officials including Deputy Prime Minister, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Minister of State, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan; and Assistant Minister for Political Affairs, Lana Nusseibeh.

The agreement sets the stage for the first-ever high-level political consultations between the two countries, with the aim of strengthening strategic cooperation. One of the core focus areas of the discussions was the establishment of a sustainable labour export system to facilitate employment of Ghanaian youth in the UAE.

According to the Minister, this initiative aligns with President John Mahama’s vision of expanding employment avenues for the youth and securing international partnerships for economic growth. “Massive job openings in the UAE will soon be announced for the Ghanaian youth” he said.

In addition to labour migration, the parties also explored other strategic sectors such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence, education, health, aviation, and defense. Notably, technical support for Ghana’s proposed national airline was also high on the agenda.
