Dafeamekpor files defamation lawsuit against Ntim Fordjour over bribery claims

South Dayi MP, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour.

He alleges that a social media post published by the latter has gravely damaged his reputation, integrity and political standing.

The suit, filed at the High Court, stems from a May 8, 2025, post on “X”, formerly known as Twitter, in which Rev Fordjour said, Mr Dafeamekpor, as vice chairman of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee, must provide answers to some alleged payments.

Rev Fordjour further suggested that a probe was necessary and accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of benefiting from some monies while in opposition.

However, Mr. Dafeamekpor, the Chief Whip of the Majority in Parliament, has refuted the claims, stating that he was not a member of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee in December 2023, when the alleged incident occurred.

He described the allegations as “false and malicious,” accusing those responsible of acting with blatant disregard for the truth.

The South Dayi MP is pursuing a court declaration that the statements were defamatory, along with various remedies, including both an interlocutory and permanent injunction to prevent Rev. Fordjour from making further publications.

He is also demanding a retraction and public apology in both print and on social media, as well as damages exceeding GH₵30 million.

In the suit, Mr. Dafeamekpor claims that the defamatory statements have caused “serious harm to his reputation,” financial losses, and public embarrassment.

He further argued that the statements were published with the deliberate intent to undermine public trust and have been permanently stored online, worsening the reputational damage.
