The National Service Authority (NSA) has uncovered a payroll fraud scheme in the Birim North District, leading to the interdiction of two senior officials—the District Manager and the MIS Manager.
Investigations revealed that they had illegally validated and processed allowances for individuals who were either on “Study Leave with Pay” or already engaged in full-time employment, falsely presenting them as National Service Personnel.
The fraudulent scheme, affecting 29 individuals in the 2024/2025 service year and 49 in the 2023/2024 service year, allowed salaried employees—including teachers, nurses, and customs officers—to receive extra monthly service allowances by concealing their actual employment status.
The NSA emphasized that such malpractices have long plagued the Authority and vowed to strengthen verification processes to prevent further fraud.
As part of its reforms, the NSA is reinforcing accountability measures and ensuring all implicated individuals face legal consequences.
