Commercial transport operators have issued a four-day ultimatum to the Ghana Police Service, demanding strict enforcement of Road Traffic Regulations, L.I. 2180-2012, particularly regulation 117, which addresses indiscriminate trading on roads and pavements.
In a statement released today, the operators announced plans to embark on a strike starting May 19, 2025, if their demands are not met.
The strike will involve parking all commercial vehicles nationwide, effectively halting public transport services.
“We urge the Ghana Police Service, the National Road Safety Authority, and the Ghana Highway Authority to take the necessary action to enforce regulations as stipulated in L.I. 2180-2012,”the association stated.
Transport operators argue that failure to enforce these regulations has led to increased road congestion, safety hazards, and inefficiencies in the transport sector.
They insist that addressing these concerns is vital for the well-being of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike.
“The enforcement of L.I. 2180-2012 is crucial for promoting road safety, reducing congestion, and improving the overall transportation system,”.
