Government is extending its crackdown on organised street begging beyond Accra, following a recent operation that led to the arrest of 2,241 foreign nationals.

Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak announced that similar operations will be carried out in other regions, including Kumasi and Tamale, in response to public calls for action.

The nationwide initiative, spearheaded by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), aims to dismantle syndicates suspected of orchestrating begging activities across the country.

The intelligence-led operation in Accra saw the early-morning apprehension of 909 adults and 1,332 children, including 961 males and 1,280 females.

In a Facebook post, Muntaka Mubarak commended GIS personnel for their commitment to national security and urged public cooperation as efforts continued.

“This is a nationwide exercise,” he affirmed, encouraging citizens to support the initiative in making streets safer.

The expansion of these operations signals a broader effort to curb street begging and ensure public order across Ghana.
