Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, has described the newly launched Girls-in-ICT program as a deliberate national strategy to position Ghana as a leading digital-oriented nation.

Speaking at an event to commemorate World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, organized by the National Communications Authority, the Minister emphasized the importance of equipping women with hands-on experience and the tools to tap into the diverse revenue streams of the global digital economy. “This initiative is not charity, it is a strategy. A digital economy which excludes women is one that limits its own potential.” he stated.

He urged all stakeholders to invest in education and enhancing the knowledge base of every Ghanaian girl to be well oriented and furnished with technical knowledge to the benefit of all Ghanaians in the future. “I urge all stakeholders – public and private alike to invest deliberately in the future of our girls.”

George advocated for the deliberate inclusion of females in these positions, urging his Ministry and stakeholders to pave way for impact made by women in society. “to the agencies under the Ministry of Communication, Digital Innovations and Technology let me be candid, when you are presented with equally qualified candidates, choose the woman who shows promise.”
