A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Team, Nana Kwadwo Agyei, popularly known as Nana Kay, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action against illegal mining (galamsey) if he is truly committed to his “Reset Agenda.”

Speaking in an interview, Nana Kay emphasized that although President Mahama has declared intentions to reset the country, the surge in galamsey activities under his leadership contradicts that objective.

He argued that without concrete and effective measures to combat illegal mining, the Reset Agenda cannot be successfully implemented.

He referenced a recent incident in Dunkwa, where a National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency chairman allegedly led local youth, reportedly involved in galamsey, to confront a government task force attempting to seize excavators and changfans. According to Nana Kay, this shows that some local party officials are undermining the fight against galamsey.

Nana Kay further stated that it appears constituency chairmen now wield more influence than ministers in matters related to illegal mining, citing the Dunkwa case where a chairman allegedly obstructed a minister’s team from carrying out their duties.

He urged the Reset Committee to take firm action against the constituency chairman involved in the Dunkwa incident. Until then,, he said, the NDC should refrain from promoting the Reset Agenda, as their actions would not align with their stated goals.
