The Senior Staff Association–Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG)has officially ended its nationwide strike, following the government’s decision to implement a long-negotiated agreement.

SSA-UoG, alongside the Technical University Administrators Association of Ghana (TUAAG) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG), had declared an indefinite strike on May 21, 2025, citing the government’s failure to honor a six-month-old agreement aimed at improving conditions of service.

In a statement issued on May 22, 2025, the union directed its members to resume work on May 23, 2025, after the Ministry of Finance released the long-awaited authorization letter for the agreement’s implementation.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has also instructed universities to begin payments immediately.

“On behalf of our sister unions TUAAG and FUSSAG, and on my behalf as the National Chairman of SSA-UoG, we are pleased to inform you that following our collective action and strong advocacy, the Government has responded positively to our demands,” the statement read.

The union expressed gratitude to Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu and GTEC Director-General Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai for their efforts in resolving the matter.
