The Institute of Community Sustainability (ICS) is urging President John Dramani Mahama to consider a bold initiative to ease road congestion and minimize traffic-related accidents, the implementation of a sustainable river and sea transport system.

With Ghana’s coastal and riverine geography offering significant potential, ICS believes water-based transportation can relieve the country’s overburdened road networks.

In a statement signed by Executive Director Eric Jerry Aidoo, ICS emphasized that utilizing rivers and the coastline could significantly reduce traffic volume and improve safety on the roads.

The proposal includes a passenger boat system connecting key towns such as Retail, Tema, James Town, Senya, Winneba, Apam, Saltpond, Cape Coast, and Takoradi.

ICS emphasized that this alternative mode of transport would be cost-effective, environmentally sustainable, and particularly beneficial to students, traders, and eventgoers traveling between these towns.
