In a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in governance, President John Mahama met with representatives from various civil society organizations to discuss the establishment of the Governance Advisory Council.

This initiative, a key promise from his campaign, aims to transform governance by providing independent oversight on human rights, corruption, and governmental affairs.

The Governance Advisory Council will serve as an independent watchdog, monitoring critical areas of governance and ensuring that public institutions adhere to ethical and transparent practices.

President Mahama emphasized that the Council would play a vital role in strengthening democratic principles and fostering accountability within the government.

A cornerstone of this initiative will be an annual report on human rights, corruption, and governance, which will provide a comprehensive review of the nation’s progress.

President Mahama reiterated his commitment to creating a transparent and accountable government that reflects the values and aspirations of the Ghanaian people.

“The Governance Advisory Council will be a beacon of accountability, ensuring that our governance system remains true to the principles of transparency and integrity,” President Mahama stated. “Through this initiative, we will empower citizens, strengthen our democracy, and build a Ghana that is governed by fairness and justice.”

The meeting with civil society leaders underscored a collaborative approach to governance reform, with various stakeholders offering insights and recommendations on the structure and mandate of the Council.

President Mahama expressed appreciation for their dedication to strengthening democratic governance and pledged continued engagement to ensure the success of the initiative.
