National Media Commission swears in 18 members to oversee Ghana’s Media landscape

The National Media Commission (NMC) has officially sworn in 18 distinguished members to lead the regulatory body in ensuring responsible journalism and upholding media freedoms in the country.

The swearing-in ceremony, held today, May 28, 2025, at the conference room of the Chief Justice, was officiated by His Lordship Justice Noble Jerome Nkrumah.

The newly appointed members come from diverse professional backgrounds, including academia, media, governance, and religious institutions.

Their collective expertise is expected to enhance the Commission’s role in promoting ethical standards and addressing pressing media challenges in Ghana.

As part of their mandate, the new members will be tasked with shaping policies that safeguard press freedom, regulate media practices, and ensure fairness in journalistic reporting.

The Commission plays a vital role in resolving media-related disputes and fostering a conducive environment for responsible reporting.

Given the increasing influence of digital media, the Commission may prioritize strategies for tackling misinformation, cyber threats, and ethical concerns surrounding online content.

Additionally, they are expected to reinforce media independence while advocating for professional standards across broadcast, print, and digital platforms.

Among the 18 individuals appointed to serve on the Commission are:

– Mr. Ernest Owusu Addo
– Mr. Anthony Obeng Afrane
– Rev. Ruby Amable
– Hajj Mohammed Amir Kpakpo Addo
– Prof. Isaac Abeku Blankson
– Ms. Esther Numaba Cobbah
– Rev. Isaac Owusu
– Mr. Kobby Asmah
– Mr. Kofi Yeboah
– Mr. Richard Mawuli Quashigah
– Prof. Akua Biri Twum
– Hon. Mahama Shaibu
– Hon. Philip Fiifi Buckman
– Hon. Korkor Laurette Asante
– Ms. Abena Annobea-Asare
– Mr. Joseph Yao Hotor
– Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills

With Ghana’s dynamic and evolving media space, expectations are high for the new members to bring innovative ideas and fresh perspectives.

Their leadership will be instrumental in shaping responsible media practices, protecting press freedom, and fostering an informed society.

The National Media Commission remains committed to its mission of ensuring that media organizations operate under ethical and legal standards while providing a balanced and truthful representation of issues in Ghana.
