Security remains tight at the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following Thursday, May 29, 2025’s protest by the Minority in Parliament.

As of Friday morning, no political party supporters had gathered at the premises, but a strong presence of security personnel remains on standby, anticipating any unannounced demonstrations.

The heightened security comes amid unconfirmed reports that former Vice President and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia may personally visit EOCO to secure bail for the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Chairman Wontumi is under investigation by EOCO for alleged financial improprieties. While official details remain limited, the bail conditions reportedly determined earlier this week as part of ongoing investigative procedures has sparked debate among the political class.

Thursday’s protest by the Minority was organized to demand stronger accountability and transparency in handling corruption-related cases, especially those involving politically exposed persons.

The demonstration was largely peaceful but prompted a firm response from security agencies around key state institutions, including EOCO.
