The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has summoned former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to appear in person at its headquarters on Monday, June 2, 2025. Failure to comply will result in severe consequences.
In a statement on Sunday, June 1, the OSP warned that if Mr. Ofori-Atta doesn’t honor the summons, he’ll be reinstated on the wanted list and declared a fugitive from justice.
The OSP will also initiate an INTERPOL Red Notice, potentially leading to international arrest and extradition, as part of ongoing corruption and abuse of office investigations.
The former finance minister was previously removed from the wanted list due to “significant cooperation.”
His status, however now appears uncertain as the Monday deadline approaches.
In an open letter dated February 26, Mr Ofori-Atta responded, stating that throughout his 40-year career, he had upheld integrity and transparency.
An INTERPOL Red Notice would issue a global alert for Mr. Ofori-Atta’s location and arrest, restricting his international travel and potentially leading to arrest in any of the 196 member countries.
A Red Notice would be circulated to 196 INTERPOL member countries, limiting Mr. Ofori-Atta’s international travel and potentially resulting in his arrest in any jurisdiction.
The outcome of Monday’s deadline is eagerly awaited, with significant implications for Mr. Ofori-Atta’s legal situation and Ghana’s fight against corruption.
Key Issues Under Investigation:
•Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance:
Contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
•Electricity Company Contract Termination:
The termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC).
•National Cathedral Project: Procurement procedures and financial transactions related to the National Cathedral.
•Ambulance Procurement: A Ministry of Health contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for purchasing and maintaining 307 ambulances.
•GRA Tax P-Fund Management: Handling and disbursement of funds from the Tax P-Fund Account of the GRA.
