Ofori-Atta requests virtual meeting with OSP today

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will not appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) today, Monday June 2, due to a sudden deterioration in his health, sources close to him have confirmed.

His legal team has formally notified both the OSP and the Human Rights Court, submitting medical documentation outlining his current condition and upcoming surgical procedures.

This development has heightened speculation that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng may reinstate Ofori-Atta on the list of wanted persons if he fails to comply with the scheduled appearance.

While an earlier statement from the OSP suggested such an action, the office has not yet confirmed its next steps.

Ofori-Atta is currently contesting his previous designation as a wanted person in the Human Rights Court, which is expected to rule on the matter on June 18, 2025.

In a recent update posted on X (formerly Twitter), the OSP acknowledged the pending legal proceedings:

“The Human Rights Court has adjourned to 18 June 2025 for a ruling on a motion filed by former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta, seeking to restrain the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) from declaring him wanted, among other reliefs.

Mr Ofori-Atta is also asking the court to order the OSP to remove previous declarations from its social media platforms. His motion was moved by his legal team and is being contested by the OSP. The court will deliver its ruling on the matter on 18 June 2025.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that Ofori-Atta has proposed a virtual engagement with the OSP under the Electronic Transactions Act, which would allow him to provide a Caution Statement remotely while continuing medical treatment.

The OSP has yet to issue a response regarding his request for a virtual session.
