Minority Members of Parliament have marched to the Police Headquarters to petition the Inspector General of Police regarding the Electoral Commission’s delay in announcing the parliamentary election results for the Ablekuma North constituency following the 2024 General Elections.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, June 4, at the Police Headquarters, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh Dompreh urged the police to ensure adequate protection for the Electoral Commission to facilitate the prompt declaration of the results.

He emphasized that the continued absence of a declared Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North amounts to a serious violation of the constitutional right to representation as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

“The 2024 General elections were affirmed by both domestic and international observers including the European Union Election Experts Mission as largely credible. Yet the Ablekuma North Constituency stands out as a shocking exception, ladies and gentlemen since December 2024 a Parliamentary results have not been declared there denying the people of Ablekuma North a right to representation under the 1992 constitution. This is without a precedent in the fourth republic and constitutes a serious plot on our democratic records,” he stated.
