The ongoing strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) continues to have heartbreaking consequences, with patients struggling to access urgent medical care.

One young woman, overwhelmed with grief, has recounted the tragic loss of her 30-year-old asthmatic uncle at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Social media.

Through tears, she described the painful ordeal, the family went through at the hospital.

“My uncle had a serious asthma attack. When we brought him to the hospital, they refused to treat him because they are on strike”.

She revealed that the family was willing to pay for immediate medical attention, but their pleas were rejected.

“Even after his wife demanded to make the necessary payments, they told us they were on strike and told us to take him back. Now, he is dead,” she sobbed.

The incident, coupled with several others on social media underscores the severe impact the healthcare crisis is having on families nationwide.

As hospitals struggle with staff shortages due to the strike, emergency cases are being turned away, leaving many patients vulnerable.

While government has appealed to the striking nurses to return to the negotiating table, families facing devastating losses are demanding urgent action to restore medical services.
