The Parliament’s Health Committee is scheduled to hold talks today, Thursday, June 12, with leaders of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) in a bid to resolve the association’s ongoing strike.

The GRNMA began the industrial action earlier this week, demanding the immediate implementation of its 2024 Collective Agreement. Key concerns include unpaid allowances and delays in the posting of its members.

The government, however, has proposed deferring implementation to 2026, citing budgetary limitations. Officials argue that the financial requirements were not included in the 2025 national budget.

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh cautioned that proceeding with the agreement as it stands could threaten economic stability, hence the proposed delay.

The GRNMA has rejected the government’s stance, insisting on immediate fulfillment of its demands and asserting that nurses and midwives should not be penalized for the country’s fiscal challenges.
