The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, says government will soon roll out DRIP machines to construct farm roads across the country.

Speaking to journalists in Kumasi on Sunday, June 15, the Minister announced that the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) has procured earth-moving equipment, which will be deployed nationwide to open up rural roads.

He explained that government will supply all districts with fuel to power the machines and ensure they serve their intended purpose.

Mr. Opoku also revealed that the Ministry has suspended all major road construction projects in rural areas to allow for efficient use of the DRIP equipment.

“What we plan to do,” he said, “is to provide funding to all districts, fuel the equipment, and get to work on access roads so farmers can transport food without difficulty.”

He disclosed that he recently halted an attempt by some officials to award new rural road contracts, emphasizing that the government already has the machines needed for the work.

“All we need is fuel and commitment,” he added.
