NPP Calls for International Intervention Over Ablekuma North Rerun

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the Ghana Police Service of deliberately withholding security support for the Electoral Commission (EC), thereby delaying the collation of results from three polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency.

At a press conference held on Tuesday following the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua expressed concern over what he described as a coordinated attempt to frustrate the collation process.

Kodua stated that both the NPP and the EC had formally requested police protection to complete the collation. While the EC confirmed its preparedness, he claimed the police declined to provide support, allegedly citing a pending Supreme Court case initiated by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“If the NDC had truly won the seat, wouldn’t they be the first to demand that the process be completed?”

He emphasized that the EC had previously received a directive from the High Court to finalize the collation and argued that any further delay undermines the electoral process.

The NPP is now calling for immediate police intervention to ensure the EC can perform its constitutional duty without obstruction.

The Ghana Police Service and the NDC have not yet issued a response to the allegations.
