President John Dramani Mahama has issued a directive to all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to declare their assets by July 15, 2025, in full compliance with Ghana’s constitutional requirements.

Speaking at an orientation and training programme for MMDCEs in Accra on Wednesday, June 18, President Mahama emphasized that the move is part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability in public service.

“You are among the officials mandated to declare your assets, and I expect every one of you to complete that process by the 15th of July,” he stated firmly

The President reminded the officials of Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution, which requires public office holders to declare their assets before assuming office, during their tenure, and upon leaving office.

Since assuming power in January 2025, President Mahama has made asset declaration a cornerstone of his anti-corruption strategy, aimed at restoring public confidence in governance.

He disclosed that all presidential appointees have so far complied with the constitutional directive and warned that any MMDCE who fails to meet the deadline will face sanctions, consistent with disciplinary measures already applied to defaulters.

“There will be no exceptions. The law must apply to everyone equally,” the President affirmed.

The orientation programme forms part of government’s broader initiative to equip local government officials with the tools to deliver on their mandates effectively and with integrity.
