The Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Roey Gilad, has praised the enduring diplomatic relationship between Ghana and Israel, describing it as “solid and mature” after nearly seven decades of cooperation.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM’s EPA HOA DABEN with Bismark Brown, Ambassador Gilad highlighted the historical roots of the bilateral relationship, noting that Israel established its first diplomatic office in Ghana in 1956—one year before Ghana gained independence.

“The relationship between Israel and Ghana is nearly 70 years old… We’ve been here from the beginning,” he stated.

Comparing the Israel-Ghana relationship to a long-standing marriage, Ambassador Gilad acknowledged that occasional disagreements are natural but emphasized that both nations have strong mechanisms to resolve issues diplomatically.

“There’s an ongoing political dialogue, and I think we can be happy with the level of our relationship. We always aim for more,” he added.

The Ambassador also spoke about Israel’s broader engagement with Africa, affirming Israel’s commitment to strengthening partnerships across the continent. He cited increasing cooperation through development, diplomacy, and trade as key priorities in Israel’s Africa policy.

As Ghana and Israel approach the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties, both countries are expected to deepen their collaboration in areas including technology, agriculture, and education.
