Aggrieved trainee teachers suspend protest After GES assurance

A group of 2022-trained graduate teachers from the Colleges of Education have suspended their picketing action at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters following assurances that their outstanding salaries will be paid by the end of July.

The teachers, who began their demonstration on Monday, June 23, gathered peacefully to demand urgent clarification over months of unpaid salaries and the delayed issuance of staff identification numbers—critical for processing salary payments.

Speaking to the media, group spokesperson Eric Darfuor stated that officials from the GES Public Relations unit addressed their concerns and offered concrete assurances.

“The PRO said there has been an official communiqué from GES, so we have suspended our picketing for now, and we are hoping to receive our salaries by the end of July. They are at the final stage of resolving our issue.”

Despite the suspension of the protest, the group expressed cautious optimism, pledging to monitor the situation closely and resume action if promises are not fulfilled.

“So we are waiting and waiting for the ‘very soon by the end of July.’ If we do not hear anything from them when the time is due, we will come back again stronger.”

The teachers, many of whom have been working for nearly a year without remuneration, say the delay has put a significant strain on their livelihoods.

GES has attributed the backlog to documentation issues and delays in staff validation processes.
