Abraham Kotei Neequaye has announced his resignation as President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), citing personal reasons.

The decision was made public via a statement issued by GBA Communications Director, Mohammed Amin Lamptey on Wednesday night.

In his statement, Mr. Neequaye described the move as a “difficult decision,” but insisted it was the most appropriate one at this stage—for himself and for fellow board members committed to preserving their integrity.

His resignation will take effect on Friday, June 27, 2025, following a scheduled press conference at 10:00 a.m. at the GBA Secretariat, where he will formally address his departure.

Reflecting on his time in office, Mr. Neequaye expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the organization. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities that I have been given as the GBA president. I actually value the insights that I have learned, and I expect them to help me in my future endeavours,” he stated.

He also acknowledged the challenges faced during his tenure, especially the public criticism aimed at him and some board members. “Let me seize the opportunity to thank the media landscape for the support you offered me and my board members, especially those of us who suffered character assassination during these difficult times,” he noted.

Emphasizing the voluntary nature of the role, he added that serving as GBA President brought no financial reward but was rather an act of sacrifice and patriotism.

The press release concluded with an invitation to media houses to attend the upcoming press conference to receive firsthand information.
