The President of the Tour Operators Union of Ghana, Madam Yvonne Donkor, is calling on West African nations to fully embrace the ECOWAS’ Free Movement Protocol, describing it as a vital engine for economic growth, cultural exchange, and cross-border tourism.
She says the agreement unlocks opportunities for job creation, regional collaboration, and the free movement of people and ideas.
“We warmly invite our brothers and sisters across ECOWAS to experience the richness of Ghana, our legendary hospitality, vibrant culture, and exceptional tourism products. Together, we can strengthen intra-African tourism, foster deeper connections, and drive inclusive development.”
Madam Donkor believes regional cooperation allows West Africa to showcase its shared heritage while celebrating the unique identity of each country. She urges policymakers to support local tourism operators, align national policies, and build a thriving tourism market across the subregion.
She highlights the real power of regional unity — breaking down artificial barriers and promoting mobility.
The President says, the countries must invest in modern infrastructure, streamline border procedures, harmonize tourism policies, and deepen public-private partnerships.
