Manhyia MP Slams Asiedu Nketia Over EC Attacks

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has taken a swipe at NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, accusing him of undermining Ghana’s democracy with what he describes as baseless attacks on the Electoral Commission.

Addressing journalists, the MP said Asiedu Nketia, with his years of political experience, should lead by example and promote stability, not stir up controversy.

“Asiedu Nketia has been in politics for decades. He should know better. You can’t go around calling the EC incompetent while your party stirs confusion,” he said.

The MP warned that such attacks, if left unchecked, could trigger a crisis that threatens the foundations of the country’s democratic process.

“If we don’t address this, future governments might push for their own Electoral Commissions. That’s dangerous for democracy,” he cautioned.

On calls for the removal of EC Chairperson Jean Mensa, Baffour Awuah said he wouldn’t be surprised if the NDC petitions the presidency.

“Looking at their actions and language, it’s not far-fetched. But if it comes to that, I trust our judges and any committee involved will rise above partisanship and protect national interest,” he stated.

The MP also accused the NDC of a pattern—targeting heads of state institutions they disagree with—and warned that Ghanaians are watching and will respond at the right time.
