KNMP commends the Government of Ghana for restoring Founder's Day

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (KNMP) has applauded the government of Ghana for restoring the Founder’s Day as part of statutory holidays to be observed by every citizen of Ghana through the passage of the National Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Bill.

Founder’s Day which was observed on August 4, every year was scrapped through the passing of the Public Holidays Amendment Bill in 2019.

The KNMP in a recent statement indicated that the holiday which was set to acknowledge the remarkable achievements made by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to establish independence for Ghana. “The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park congratulates the Government on its bold decision to restore “Founder’s Day” in honour of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, through the passage of the National Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Bill. This decision is not only a victory for truth and historical justice, but a reaffirmation of the indisputable legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as the true founder of Ghana.” the statement said.

The KNMP further explained that the decision of the government to implement the passage of the holidays of the National Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Bill, shows the government’s determination to correct historical distortions and assert Dr. Nkrumah’s status as the founder of Ghana.”

The government commended, was also urged to ensure that the Founder’s Day holiday is safeguarded from future political revisionism and historical distortions. “We would now call on the Government, Parliament and the Constitutional Review Committee to take steps to entrench Founder’s Day in law, to safeguard it from future political revisionism and historical distortions. The legacy of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah must be preserved for posterity untainted and undiluted.”
