Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has sounded the alarm over what he describes as a calculated move by the government to oust Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
According to Ahiagbah, the administration is forging ahead with the removal process without regard for legal norms or public opinion.
“The government is determined to remove the Chief Justice. They won’t listen to anybody. Forget about the dictates”, Ahiagbah remarked, underscoring what he views as a blatant disregard for constitutional procedures.
He claims this action is part of a broader strategy to compromise the independence of Ghana’s democratic institutions by reshaping key leadership positions, including those within the judiciary and Electoral Commission.
Ahiagbah warned that such tactics could erode judicial independence and threaten the country’s democratic checks and balances.
